Historical Society and Millikin University to host The 28th Annual Illinois History Symposium will be held March 13-15, 2008, on the campus of Millikin University in Decatur. The 2008 symposium, which features the latest scholarly research about Prairie State history, archaeology, popular culture, politics, ethnic populations, and folklore, is themed “Lincoln’s Legacies,” and coincides with the 150th anniversary of the historic Lincoln-Douglas debates. “This is an excellent opportunity for the Society and Millikin University to collaborate,” said William Furry, Executive Director of the 108-year-old, Springfield-based, Illinois State Historical Society. “Decatur was the Lincoln family’s first home in Illinois and has a rich cultural history, with Millikin University at the center.” The symposium features three-days of presentations, panels, workshops, and discussions, as well as the annual Illinois History Video Fair, which screens the latest documentaries by Illinois filmmakers.
